Adoptable Dog of the Week – Meet Tanner!

Tanner, a handsome Shepherd/Lab/Hound mix, is seeking his forever home.

Breed: Shepherd/Lab/Hound Mix

Age: 8 Months

Temperament: Great with dogs and cats; fearful of men; great with women

Training: House-trained

Background: Tanner gets along with other dogs and cats. He is very sweet, loving and loyal to his people/person. Loves to take walks and play w his toys. Tanner has some trust issues and is very fearful of men. We do not recommend him to live with men or kids. We feel Tanner would do best in a quieter home rather than a busy household and with a loving, patient and experienced dog owner who wants to help Tanner realize that life can be enjoyable and people can be kind. He bonds strongly with women and is a huge cuddler and love bug once he knows and trusts you.

Calling all puppy owners = time to teach “down”.

Here are a few quick tips on how to teach the “down” command.

“Down” = the dog’s belly touches the floor and the dog remains there until he hears another command

Step 1 = Place dog into a sit, kneel next to the dog and have a treat at the dog’s nose.

Step 2 = Begin to move the treat from the dog’s nose toward his toes. Keep your free hand hovering over his back in case he needs a little assistance.

Step 3 = Once the dog’s belly is fully on the floor, let him have the treat. Keep your free hand on his back so he doesn’t pop right back up. After he has held the position for a few seconds say “ok” and release your hand.

This beauty was rescued from NY ACC earlier this year and brought a big surprise to her foster family. She was pregnant! She has delivered her puppies who have been scooped up into new homes and now she is looking for a home of her own. She is sweet with all but being 60 lbs, she is stronger than she thinks. She gets excited, wiggles, and jumps when her foster family comes home Who can blame her for wanting some love and attention? An experienced dog owner that can give her the training and exercise she needs is preferred.

Breed: Pit Bull Terrier

Age: 2 yrs

Temperament: Good with people and dogs.
She is happy, friendly and full of energy;
Due to size and energy level, she would do best in a home with no small children.

Training: House trained; crate trained; knows sit, stay and come

She has been spayed and is up to date with all vaccinations.
